Shibori dyeing is an ancient Japanese art, created by wrapping the silk around a pole, binding it with thread, dying, bleaching and overdyeing, to achieve layers of color and imagery. I combine unique resist-dyeing techniques that I have developed over 30 years of experimenting.

Shibori Dye Process

1. Silk scarves wrapped around a pole, dyed, waiting to be discharged (bleached).

2. Silk scarves after being cooked in the discharge solution.

3. Silk scarves that have been discharged and over dyed (more color painted on).
